Welcome to NAHN’s Hispanic Role Models in Health Care Careers page. We are delighted to present the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 Hispanic Role Models in Health Care Careers. These outstanding nurses have shared the same challenges that you face but have persevered and have been able to reach their dreams of being engaged in a wonderful, giving career.
Why do we need more Hispanic Nurses?
Hispanics in Nursing: Out of the 3,000,000 registered nurses in the U.S., Hispanics represent only 3.6% even though Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population. Many Hispanic students and parents are not aware of the multiple opportunities that exist in the nursing fields.
What is the Hispanics in Nursing Project?
The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is profiling Hispanic nurses in a new radio campaign — Carreras en Enfermería / Hispanics in Nursing — to spark the interest of persons looking for rewarding and fulfilling career opportunities to grow professionally as a nurse.
Carreras en Enfermería / Hispanics in Nursing connects listeners to real Hispanic nurse role models. You can hear Hispanic nurses’ stories, and access information on career paths and nursing school resources to get you started.
The radio series is just the start of the outreach being conducted by NAHN. Our goal is to increase the number of Hispanic nurses over the next 5 years.
This project was made possible due to a National Instutes of Health (NIH) Science Education Partnership Grant (SEPA) grant. The Project investigator is Angie Millan, RN, CNS/NP, MSN, DNP, FAAN, past president of NAHN (2010-2012).

Thank you for your interest in becoming a future nurse. We would like to share what the “Hispanics in Nursing Careers” campaign is about. The campaign’s goal is to inspire Hispanic youth and adults to becoming a future registered nurse.
To learn more about why you should become a nurse, you can visit the role models profile pages on this website and find several “role models” who talk about why they became a nurse.
You can also look up to see if one of the 44 NAHN chapters are located near you so that you can reach out to the chapter and start networking and attending the chapter meetings/activities to learn more about the profession.
IWe also have a Mentor Connection, which you can access to identify a mentor. Also, go to the nearest school/college and speak to a counselor/advisor that is familiar with nursing programs. The counselor/advisor knows best about your State’s nursing programs requirements that you need to meet to be able to enroll into a nursing school.
